“Houseless in Paradise” and “The Unsalable Thing” at the 2016 New York City Fringe Festival!

PlayBuilders' resident playwright, Mark Tjarks, has taken "Houseless in Paradise" and "The Unsaleable Thing" to the NYC Fringe Festival! We are so proud of Mark and the fact he is taking these plays beyond Hawai'iʻs shores.

“Houseless in Paradise” received Poʻokela Award recognition from the Hawai'i State Theatre Council in 2014, and “The Unsalable Thing” won “Best Play” Award at our annual “The PlayFestival” in 2015. We also presented rehearsed readings of both plays for Hawai'i Pacific University School of Social Workʻs Homeless Awareness Week in 2015 at the ARTS at Marks Garage and Fort Street Mall. We wish Mark, and his entire team the very best as they continue to bring the stories of Hawai'iʻs homeless to life.

If you are in NYC, and are friend of PlayBuilders, please go and see this beautiful presentation. For more information and to obtain tickets, please go to : https://tjarksplays.wordpress.com/about/

2016 NY International Fringe Festival

Hawaii’s dirty, little secret: it has the highest rate of homelessness in the U.S.

“If my story can help somebody just one person. All the things I went through, the pain, it’s worth it.”
(Po’okela Award, Best Play)

The Unsalable Thing

“What would Jesus do if he won a storage locker with an elderly, ex-transvestite, ex-burlesque-dancing language scholar in it?”
(William Faulkner Best Play)
