Mahalo Mona Wood-Sword and IKAIKI Communications for caring enough to organize a very special workshop for local non-profits last Saturday, January 16, on the subject of “Public Relations.” Terri Madden, PlayBuilders’ founder and executive director, was extremely pleased she was able to attend.
In case you are not aware of public relations world, Mona is publicity and marketing consultant to Dog, The Bounty Hunter” and up-scale restaurants like Wolfgang’s Steakhouse by Wolfgang Zwiener and other VIPS. The workshop, covered the basics of public relations and how to get media coverage for your non-profit. Representatives of 20 or so organizations, learned how to write a press release, where to send press releases, and gained great "insider" tips that, if followed, will help make their campaigns a success.
There were amazing speakers at the workshop; Ron Nagasawa, publisher of MidWeek; Robyn Furuya, owner and general manager of KZOO Radio; Jason Genegabus, staff writer of Honolulu Star-Advertiser/TGIF; and Sean Ibara, producer of KHON2, shared wisdom on how non-profits can best help themselves when working with the media.
Terri tells us, “Perhaps the most important lesson I learned was to become more aware of the people behind the scenes in the various media organizations. Ron Nagasawa of Midweek used Mona as an example. He said that he would do any thing for her because she constantly gives back to the community and never forgets to say, ʻThank you.ʻ”
So we are not going to forget to thank Mona. We so appreciate you, Mona Wood-Sword and IKAIKI Communications for inviting PlayBuilders to attend your workshop. We will never forget what you shared and any time you see a news item about “PlayBuilders of Hawaiʻi Theatre Company,” know you had a hand in that.
