This Wednesday, April 20, PlayBuilders of Hawaiʻi Theater Company Ensemble actors Iris Wilhelm Norseth, Kahana Ho, Terri Madden, and Robert Yokoyama will perform a rehearsed reading of "Houseless in Paradise" at 12:00 noon in the Kapunawai Room on the 2nd floor of the Learning Commons at Leeward Community College. This is part of a very special Kick Off for Leeward Community College's annual drive for The Hawaii Food Bank, which will run until Friday, May 6. Last year, Leeward Community College raised a generous total of $6,213 in a combination of food and money. The Hawaii Food Bank helps feed nearly 50,000 children, 46,000 elderly, homeless, disabled and working poor families annually.
"Houseless In Paradise,” a community collaborative play written by Mark Tjarks and based on interviews of 60 members of O‘ahu's homeless community, was first performed by PlayBuilders in 2013 and toured the island with several weekend performances at The ARTS at Marks Garage, Catholic Charities Hawaii, Central Union Church, Ala Moana Beach Park, and the Waianae Boat Harbor. It received two awards from The Hawai’i State Theatre Council (Best Overall Play and Best Director of a Play) in 2014. Light refreshments will be served after the performance. Please join us as we share the voices of Hawai‘i's homeless.
