The Po'okela Awards
The Po'okela Awards are presented annually to recognize and acknowledge excellence in local theatre. The Hawaii State Theatre Council awards each Po'okela based on a selection process that involves three adjudicators who attend every show presented by Honoluluʻs best theatre companies during that year. In 2013-2014, PlayBuilders of Hawai'i brought home top awards for Overall Play ("Houseless in Paradise") and Director of a Play, Terri Madden for "Houseless in Paradise." In 2016-2017 PlayBuilders of Hawaiʻs received Po'okela for Ensemble, Overall Non-Traditional Play, and Resident Playwright (Terri Madden) for Dragonfly, The Story of a Young Local Girlʻs Journey Through Foster Care. |
Excellence in Service Awards
The Excellence in Service Awards are given by the PlayBuilders staff to recognize outstanding contributions to the company. Each awardee is recognized at that particular awards ceremony. In 2014, Excellence in Service Awards were presented to Kahana Ho, Lisa Barnes, and Mark Tjarks. |
