#MeToo Survivors Circle
under special agreement with
Hawaiʻi Pacific University
in 2016, PlayBuilders worked with HPU student Maisa Thayer who valued what theater can provide as a collaborative art and a tool for restorative justice. While attending the School of Social work at HPU, she collected many stories from the community in the form of letters and emails, and asked PlayBuilders founder and artistic Director Terri Madden to direct a community based play she titled "#MeToo Monologues" at HPU. The play was performed to standing room only crowds and was enthusiastically received at HPUʻs Paul and Vi Loo theater. Then in 2018, under special agreement with Hawaiʻi Pacific University, Terri invited more people from the community to share their stories and devised "#MeToo Survivorsʻs Circle" with new material plus several stories from the original "#MeToo Monologues."
The cast included Marizel Butin, Deanna Espinas, Sasha Georgiades, Dezmond Gilla, Erin Eealy, Becky McGarvey, Rāchee Sapla, Maisa Thayer, Destiny Sharion, and Kalamaikamala "Mala E.M. Sylvester.
